Thunderbolt™ Rumbles Into The Future

Intel_395

Thunderbolt was developed under the name Light Peak by the same people who brought us USB. Intel. Thunderbolt is a hardware interface that allows the connection of external peripherals to a computer. It uses the same connector as Mini DisplayPort.

It is an integration technology that fuses PCI Express with Minidisplay. The end product is the fastest connectivity humans have seen yet. The first Thunderbolt ran at 10 GBPS. Not too long ago released was Thunderbolt 2 at 20 GBPS. There’s already whispers about Thunderbolt 3 at 40 GBPS. Those are astronomical speeds considering USB 3 is a little over 80 MBPS (that’s not even one gig! TB has 10!). Firewire comes in at maybe 80 MBPS on a good day.
